Your Instagram Makeover | Part 2

It’s time for Part 2 of my special three part mini-series, ‘Your Instagram Makeover‘, which I’ve created in advance of the re-launch of my Instagram for Florist online course this coming Monday.

The aim of this series is to help you maximise your full potential on Instagram. It’ll also ensure that you’re using it effectively to grow your business. In Part 1, we looked at just one half of the first impression that someone sees when they come to your Instagram account, your Profile. Thank you for all your lovely feedback. I’m so pleased you found it useful.

Now in the second part of the ‘Your Instagram Makeover’ series, we’re going to look at the other half of that first impression. And that’s your Grid. Specifically, we’re going to cover ‘How to Create a Visually Appealing Grid’

‘I’m glad I signed up for your course as it’s making me be more business-like. And I really appreciate the way that you’ve structured the course into easy-to-understand manageable segments.’

1. Use High Quality Images

Whether you take photos on your phone or your camera, make sure that the photos are of high quality. So no blurring and try to get great composition.

2. Consistent Editing Style

Irrespective or whether you edit your images in Instagram, on your phone or desktop, just make sure that you have a consistent editing style, as illustrated below on my @flowerona account.

3. Curate & Plan

Invest the time to plan and curate a beautiful online gallery of your work. To help you do that, you can use a planning tool like Later. This is the app I use. And it enables me to see which images will look good next to each other before I post them on Instagram.

4. Colour Band

On my @underthefloralspell account, I group together images which feature the same colours. Below for example there’s a bit of a white and green theme going on. By using a planning tool, it’s so much easier to be able to do this and see how the images will look together.

5. Alternate Dark & Light Images

Another way to create a visually appealing grid is to alternate dark and light images, if like me you love both. This is something which I do on @flowerona and @underthefloralspell.

6. Alternate Detailed & Less Detailed Images

And finally, you can alternate detailed and less detailed shots, as you’ll see below on @underthefloralspell. So instead of every shot being really, really detailed, which can sometimes be a bit much on your viewers’ eyes, I’ve alternated detailed images with slightly less detailed images, which have more white or negative space.

I hope you’ve found these suggestions useful. Both your Profile, which we looked at in Part 1, and your Grid are covered in lots more detail in my Instagram for Florists online course, which relaunches this coming Monday.

‘I was finding Instagram stressful but your course has not only made social media easier for me. It’s also helped me hone in on what I want my new business to look like.’

My Instagram for Florists online course is available to buy for one week only from next Monday until Friday. Then the six week course itself starts on Monday 18th January.

It features over 35 video tutorials. There’s a private Facebook group exclusively for course students. You’ll have access to six Instagram Case Studies with top florists from around the globe. And by completing the course weekly exercises, you’ll further cement your knowledge and understanding, thereby helping you transform your Instagram account.

If you have any questions about the course, please DM me on my @flowerona Instagram account or send an email to

This is the fourth time that I’m running the course. Past students are florists and flowers growers from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Estonia, South Africa, Dubai, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan. It would be lovely if you’d like to join us!
